I’d say the devolution of HUS is a case study of something else. It obviously proves the simple fact that the great majority of Western women, whether they call themselves feminists or not, whether they complain a lot about their personal lives or men in general a lot, have no desire to see substantial changes in the general relationship between men and women.
Again, they may whine and moan here and there that many men suck or that sometimes other women give terrible dating advice or that family courts are occasionally unfair and biased towards some man they care about, but they have no desire to see tangible changes to the laws regulating male-female interaction or meaningful shifts in the cultural milieu where such interaction takes place. They don’t actually want to undo modern feminism, even partially, in any way. This is the real reason women don’t support the MRM. Some women tend to go to great lengths to explain why they’d love to support the MRM if only it changed some things about itself, but it’s just BS.
The overwhelming consensus among Western women, especially those in the middle and upper classes, is that there’s simply nothing seriously wrong with the current cultural and legal environment, or with general relations between men and women. They merely think there are fairly small and isolated problems, all of which are caused by men, and these problems are easily solvable through government intervention and stricter legislation (see: “rape culture” on campuses and in IT companies).
